Sam Young,

baritone

 

 

British baritone Sam Young trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under the tuition of Marcus van den Akker. He previously completed his Masters and Bachelor of Arts at Bath Spa University under Henry Moss.

Over the years Sam has worked with companies such as Oxford Opera Company, Iford Arts, Dorset Opera Festival, Bampton Classical Opera, Bath International Music Festival, and has appeared in concerts across the UK, Europe and China. His awards include the Chartered Surveyor’s Vocal Prize at GSMD and The Bath Spa University Performance Award. He was a finalist in the Dean and Chadlington Singing Competition in 2015.

Operatic Repertoire: Papageno in The Magic Flute (upcoming, Opera Anywhere); Moralès in Carmen (Oxford Opera); Don Alonzo in Le Cid (Dorset Opera Festival); Le Duc in La jolie fille de Perth, Sam in Trouble in Tahiti, Sailing Master in Billy Budd (scenes, Guildhall School of Music and Drama); Coryphée in Le Comte Ory, Herald in Macbeth (Dorset Opera Festival); Squire in Thomas and Sally, Moore in The Dragon of Wantley (Bath International Music Festival). Chorus work includes appearances with Iford Arts, Bampton Classical Opera, Dorset Opera Festival.

 

Concert Repertoire: Baritone soloist in Orff’s Carmina Burana (upcoming); Jesus in Bach’s St John’s Passion; Baritone soloist in Brahm’s Ein Deutsches Requiem; Haman in Handel’s Esther; Bass soloist in Handel’s Dixit Dominus. Chorus work includes concerts with Britten Sinfonia Voices and Philharmonia Chorus. 

Appearances with North Wales Opera Company: September 2019: Chorus in Suor Angelica; Chorus/Alfio cover in Cavalleria Rusticana (Stiwt Theatre, Rhosllannerchrugog; St George's Concert Room, Liverpool). October 2019: Sacristan in Tosca (St George's Concert Room, Liverpool; Rhyl Pavilion, Rhyl); Chorus in Tosca (Stiwt Theatre, Rhosllannerchrugog).
